International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Recognised by Pujya Swamiji

He encourages Youth to be sensitive to drug abuse, saying “freedom from alcohol will free you from violence.” Gives the slogan, “If you Love your Life, get rid of Drugs.”

26 June, Rishikesh: With the goal of making the public aware of the hazards of illegal and illicit drugs, the United Nations – in 1989 – established the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, celebrated annually on this date, 26 June.

To recognise the importance of the day, Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji, the President and Spiritual head of Parmarth Niketan Ashram, offered beautiful words of support and inspiration to the youth of India and the world, stating that “At present, so many of our youth are under the influence of drugs. The youth is our future, they are our precious treasure, so we must do everything that we can to guide them away from the use of these mind- and life-altering substances.”

“During the current Covid-19 pandemic, our government shuttered liquor shops all across India. When they opened the shops, people waited in lines for six, seven hours just to buy liquor. What is the reason for this? What is this addiction? With death looming around every corner, people stood in line for a bottle of liquor. There was the fear of death – but, the fear of being sober was greater.”

“As bad as alcohol is, drugs are worse. This form of intoxication is complete destruction. It is fatal. God has counted everyone’s breath. Smoking a cigarette reduces one breath, drinking a beedi reduces two breaths, and eating a packet of gutka reduces four breaths.”

“Alcohol, cigarettes, drugs…it is the addiction to these substances that is so harmful. Think about this: We are doing ourselves an injustice. One million people in India, and more than 7 million people globally, suffer premature deaths just due to the addiction to tobacco and cigarette consumption each year. Add-in those suffering from alcohol and illicit drug addiction, and the numbers are staggering.”

“And, it’s not just the addict’s life that is affected. In addition, there is a risk of family and social breakdown and separation due to drug addiction. Women are at perhaps the greatest risk, because so many of them are killed because of their partner’s addiction. The home – considered to be the safest place for women – becomes the most unsafe for them.”

“So, in this time of the Corona epidemic, and especially on this important United Nations Day, move from Corona to Karuna. Make this a time of compassion. Have compassion for yourself, free yourself from all kinds of intoxication and also make sure that no person is left behind, that nobody’s heart gets broken. All those who are under the influence of drugs need our help.”

“We have to create an environment where there is no discrimination or hatred, no stigma or doubt in our hearts, even against the addict. We must offer them support so that they can move away from addiction. Our affection and love for them can bring a revolutionary change in their lives.”

Perhaps most-importantly, Pujya Swamiji reminds us that “there is also a divine addiction – intonification- that provides inner fun, purification, joy and divinity, and we can connect with it through meditation. If we connect with ourselves through meditation, then we can be sure that the nature of intoxication will also be removed, addiction will also be released and we will be able to remain happy even while busy. Everyone should live a simple, sattvic and live life to the fullest divine potential, and meditation is a good first step to doing so.”

26 जून, ऋषिकेश। नशीली दवाओं के दुरुपयोग और अवैध व्यापार के खिलाफ अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दिवस, मादक पदार्थों के सेवन और अवैध मादक पदार्थों के व्यापार के खिलाफ संयुक्त राष्ट्र अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दिवस 26 जून को मनाया जाता है। यह 1989 के बाद से 26 जून को वार्षिक रूप से मनाया जाता है। इसका उद्देश्य नशीली दवाईयों तथा अवैध दवाईयों के प्रति जनमानस को जागरूक करना।
नशीली दवाओं के दुरुपयोग और अवैध व्यापार के खिलाफ अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दिवस के अवसर पर परमार्थ निकेतन के परमाध्यक्ष स्वामी चिदानन्द सरस्वती जी ने देश के युवाओं को संदेश देते हुये कहा कि ’’वर्तमान समय में अधिकांश युवा नशे की गिरफ्त में जा रहें हैं। युवा हमारे देश की संपत्ति हंै; हमारे देश का युवा हमारा बहुमूल्य खजाना है अतः युवाओं को नशीले पदार्थों के सेवन के प्रति संवेदनशील करना होगा।‘‘

कोरोना वायरस के कारण देश में लाॅकडाउन के समय शराब की दुकानें बंद थी। कुछ दिनों बाद सरकार ने दुकानें खोली तो लोग शराब खरीदने के लिये छः सात घन्टे लाइन में लगे रहे। क्या नशा है शराब का! जिसके आगे मृत्यु का डर भी छोटा पड़ गया। एक बोतल शराब के लिये लोग कतार में जिंदगी लेकर खड़े हो गये, ऐसे में मौत का डर तो वहम था परन्तु आज नशा जिंदगी से बड़ा हो गया।
नशे के कारण परिवार में बिखराव, अलगाव और सामाजिक सम्बंध भी टूटने का खतरा बना रहता है। महिलाओं के लिये सबसे सुरक्षित माना जाने वाला घर ही उनके लिये सबसे असुरक्षित हो जाता है। नशे की लत के कारण कई महिलाओं की हत्या उनके पार्टनर या परिवार के सदस्यों के द्वारा ही कर दी जाती है।

स्वामी चिदानन्द सरस्वती जी ने कहा कि कोरोना महामारी के दौरान विश्व ड्रग्स दिवस पर आईये अपने कदम कोरोना से करूणा की ओर बढ़ायें। यह करुणा का समय है सबसे पहले तो स्वयं पर करूणा करें, स्वयं को हर तरह के नशे से मुक्त करें और यह भी सुनिश्चित करें कि कोई भी व्यक्ति पीछे न छुट जाये, किसी का दिल न टूट जायें। जो भी नशे की गिरफ्त में हंै उन सभी को हमारी मदद की जरूरत है।
जो लोग ड्रग्स का उपयोग करते हैं उन तक पहंुचना होगा और यह सुनिश्चित करना होगा कि नशा करने वालों से घ्रृणा न करें, उनको अपनापन दंे, उनके साथ आत्मीयता की भावना से मिलें।

स्वामी जी ने नशा करने वाले युवाओं से कहा कि अपनी प्रतिरक्षा को मजबूत करें, घीरे-धीरे अपनी नशे की आदत को सुधारें ताकि जीवन में बदलाव की लहर आये। उन्होंने कहा कि नशा, नाश करता है। नशा शराब या तम्बाकू में नहीं हमारी सोच में है अतः सोच से नशे को बाहर निकालना होगा। नशा केवल कैंसर का ही कारण नहीं बल्कि दिल की धड़कन को भी रोक देता है। कृपया जिन्दगी चुनंे, नशा नहीं।

नशा जानलेवा है, भगवान ने सभी को गिनती की साँसे दी हंै एक सिगरेट पीने से एक साँस कम हो जाती है, एक बीड़ी पीने से दो साँसे कम हो जाती है और एक पैकेट गुटका खाने से चार साँसे कम हो जाती है। सोचो तो सही, क्या हम अपने साथ ही अन्याय नहीं कर रहे हैं। भारत में दस लाख और विश्व स्तर में 70 लाख से अधिक लोग हर साल तम्बाकू और सिगरेट के सेवन से अकाल मृत्यु को प्राप्त हो जाते हंै। नशा, कैंसर कारक है, अतः अगर जीवन से है प्यार, तो नशे का करें बहिष्कार।’’

स्वामी जी ने कहा कि एक ऐसा भी नशा है जो भीतर की मस्ती, आनन्द और दिव्यता प्रदान करता है और हम इससे ध्यान के माध्यम से जुड़ सकते हंै। ध्यान के माध्यम से हम अपने आप से जुडं़ेगे तो पक्का माने कि नशे की प्रवृति भी छूटेगी, व्यसन भी छूटेंगे और हम व्यस्त रहते हुये भी मस्त रह सकेंगे। मनुष्य को सरल, सात्विक और मर्यादित जीवन जीना चाहिये। ’’ये अपने ही दिल की मस्ती, जिसने मचाई हलचल। नशा शराब में होता, तो नाचती बोतल।’’

स्वामी जी ने कहा कि नशा, सर्वथा नाश करता है इसलिये अपने शारीरिक और मानसिक स्वास्थ्य को ध्यान में रखते हुये एक ऐसा वातावरण बनाना है कि नशा करने वाले के प्रति भी हमारे दिलों में कोई भेदभाव या घृणा न हो, कोई स्टिग्मा या संशय न हो उन्हें ज्यादा से ज्यादा अपनापन देना होगा ताकि वे इस समस्या से बाहर निकल सकंे। उनके प्रति हमारा अपनापन और प्रेम उनके जीवन में एक क्रांतिकारी परिवर्तन ला सकता है।
