Makar Sankranti Clean-Up

Every year, Lord Surya – the Sun – gloriously returns to the Northern Hemisphere, signaling the onset of Spring and the beginning of the end of the cold Winter season. We celebrate this much-heralded event with a beautiful and much-loved festival we like to call Makar Sankranti which marks the first day of the sun’s transit into Makara rashi (Capricorn) and the start of longer days. We fly kites, light bonfires and attend fairs, offer both Surya and our sacred gaus (cows) their own divine pujas…we feast, we dance, we socialize. And, we clean.

In the United States and other Western nations, it’s called Spring Cleaning. Putting away the winter clothes; opening the windows to let the fresh air chase-out the musty air from months of the house being closed-up; cleaning everything from top to bottom. Here in India, it’s a Cleaning Drive – a Safai Abhiyan – and, we clean everything from top to bottom!

Inspired by and with the blessings of HH Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji – Muniji and with the beautiful guidance of Pujya Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswatiji, it’s a beautiful time for our Rishikumars and sevaks to come together as a family and show our beautiful Ashram the love that it so richly deserves.

Watch and listen as we spruce-up Parmarth in anticipation of welcoming guests and visitors again!
