Yesterday at Kendriya Vidyalaya School, Rishikesh, our #WaterSchool team had great interactions with students and teachers about the crucial importance of conserving water and the role of trees in countering climate change, soil erosion and rejuvenating our planet’s fresh water sources. They also discussed ways to support and promote the Swachh Vidyalaya, Swachh Bharat (Clean School, Clean India) programme, of the Government of India, and improve WASH for every child. They also planted several fruit trees in the school’s beautiful gardens. In so doing, each child named his or her own tree and made a pledge to forever love and nurture their plant. Afterwards they joined together in chants of “Ped Lagao, Paryavaran Bachao” (Plant a Tree, Save your Future), “Jitne Bache, Utne Ped” (as many students, that many trees) and “Jal Hai to Kal Hai” (Where there is water, then there is a future).
