World River Day Message

On the occasion of World Tourism Day and World River Day, Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswati ji Maharaj said that the main centre of tourism in Uttarakhand is Ganga and other rivers that flow from the lap of the Himalayas. Rivers are the water veins of the earth. Just as the human body cannot survive without blood vessels, likewise life on earth cannot be imagined without water vessels.

Our rivers are the mother of many cultures of the world including India. In Rigveda, the Saraswati river is mentioned, in which it is called Vishal and Sadanira. More than 1000 archaeological centers of the Hadappa civilization have been found on the dry banks of the modern Ghaghghar river. There is so much evidence that many cultures of the world have emerged on the banks of the rivers!

Pujya Swamiji talked about how many rivers of the world including India have become highly polluted and some are on the verge of disappearing. The conservation of rivers has become very important in such a way that World River Day is celebrated every year, to increase public awareness about rivers and the impact people have upon them!
